EuroGoTV (2007-2022): A Personal Journey and Its End
June 25, 2025
From 2007 to 2022, I ran EuroGoTV.com, a website that broadcast live coverage of major European Go tournaments via video. What started as an ambitious project grew into a comprehensive platform with multiple features that served the European Go community.
What EuroGoTV Was (2007-2022)
EuroGoTV provided live video broadcasts of important Go tournaments across Europe. The website featured:
The Impact of COVID-19
When COVID-19 hit, live tournaments simply stopped existing. There were no events to broadcast, no tournaments to cover. The entire foundation of what EuroGoTV provided disappeared overnight. After the restrictions were lifted, the demand for my services had diminished, and I made the decision to take regular employment.
Personal Setbacks
In October 2022, I suffered a stroke and developed a thrombosis in my right eye. Since then, I haven't earned any income, and life took a completely different direction.
Technical Collapse
During this same period, multiple technical issues converged. Judith and I had moved to the heart of France (Haute-Vienne), seeking a fresh start. Simultaneously, the server in Germany underwent a transition from SQL to PDO - a necessary modernization that didn't go smoothly.
The worst part was that our private photo server, containing all 50,000+ photos, was damaged. Years of Go history, thousands of captured moments, were potentially lost forever.
Where Things Stand Now
Since then, EuroGoTV has been offline. What was once an active community platform is now a dormant reminder of different times.
Moving Forward
I'm not planning to revive EuroGoTV. These days, I'm playing chess again - not as strong as I was in my 20s and 30s, but I'm enjoying it. Life has taken a different path.
The photos, if I can recover them, will be moved to Judith's website at jujuphoto.eu where they can find a proper home.
A Final Note
This blog post serves as a record of what EuroGoTV was and why it ended. Sometimes projects run their course, circumstances change, and it's time to close one chapter and move on to the next.
To those who were part of the EuroGoTV community during its active years: thank you for being part of the journey.

EuroGoTV provided live video broadcasts of important Go tournaments across Europe. The website featured:
- A news section maintained by a simple AI tool that kept content updated
- Over 50,000 photos in the photo section documenting tournaments and events

- An interactive Go board built in Node.js for game analysis
- A feature allowing users to tag parts of photos and create customized images
- Various other features that evolved over the years
